Beta Release Candidate 2 now released

January 15, 2009

We just released Beta Release Candidate 2.  It’s a bug fix release; specifically it attempts to fix the windows installer.

Thanks to farenheight for giving the hint, but the RC1 candidate used gcc 4.3.0 on windows, but ffmpeg doesn’t seem to like that, so we backed it up to 4.2.4.  To get the release, visit the xuggler downloads page here.

To give folks a peek into what’s next, the next Release Candidate (3) will focus on adding new features, and Release Candidate (4) will be another bug fix release.  We plan on RC3 coming out on Monday, so we’ll pick features we think we can implement by then.

Thanks for your patience, and keep the feature requests coming and the bug hunting strong.

FFMPEG Team now Auto-Building Windows

January 14, 2009

Multimedia Mike has been building a continuous build server called FATE for about a year that continuously builds FFMPEG on Linux and Mac under different compilers.

Today he announced that, with the help of Ramiro Polla, FATE now supports Windows builds as well.  This is really good news and should help improve the reliability of building FFMPEG on Windows.  Thanks Mike and Ramiro.

We’ll look into also adding Windows builds to our own continuous build server over the next few months.

Hi folks,

Looks like the windows installer we built for RC1 has a few issues.  See here for the workaround.  We’ll fix it in RC2:

Beta Update

January 12, 2009

UPDATE: See here for the full Overly Simplistic Guide to Internet Video.

Hi folks,

As some of you know, our plan is to release a beta version of Xuggler today.  The good news is we’re in the process of packaging it up; the bad news is we’re about a day behind due to some instability in the FFMPEG build process (that thankfully the ffmpeg folks fixed yesterday).  We’re still hopeful it’ll be posted today, but it will be late today.

Xuggler Beta

January 9, 2009

Hi folks,

So our official launch date will be February 24th at the FITC conference in Amsterdam, but we’ll post updates along the way.

For those people that are interested, we’ll be posting our first offical beta release candidate on Monday.  If you’d like to be part of the beta, join the Xuggler-Users group below:
http://groups.google.com/group/xuggler-users

The beta is really for experienced Java developers, preferably who have some familiarity with Red5 or FFMPEG.  We think the code quality is pretty high, and the API is stable (we’ve had some folks hammering on the alpha release) but we won’t have all our tutorials and full docs in place until Feb 24th.  So if you’re in the beta, please send questions you have to the group and we’ll use that to improve the final release.

Thanks in advance.
